Atrim Coast

Dunluce Castle

When asked the first night what we wished to see the most, my answer was unequivocally the Giant's Causeway on the Atrim Coast. A photographer's delight, I could have easily spent an entire day here hiking the various trails and obtaining the numerous angles I have wanted to photograph for the past 8 or 9 years.  Mom and I, being the adventurous types, were climbing over the basalt columns quickly.  I would go back in a heartbeat!

We then went onto Old Bushmills Distillery; thankfully, after and not before our adventures on the Giant's causeway as many partook in the tour's tasting.  We walked away with a portion sized bottle and the knowledge of the hard work that goes into the making of each.

A trip to Dunluce Castle was next on our agenda and was a lovely experience at that.  In 1639, the castle's kitchens, which perched on the edge of the cliff, fell away during the middle of dinner.  Needless to say, the lady of the castle was not enamored with the idea that the rest may soon follow and they vacated the premises soon after.  The castle continues to boast a lively history as told by our guide and makes a lovely picture for those who visit.

A day to test the will of those who find heights tenuous, we next ventured to the Carrick-a-Rede rope footbridge.  This area has been featured in Game of Thrones, so some of you might recognize it as a brighter version of the Iron Islands.  The number of birds alone was breathtaking as they nest in the sides of the steep-sided island.  However, even more so was the view from this location.  It was well worth the heart-racing walk across the bridge.
